Dumfries House Residency
In spring 2026 I was awarded a two week residency through the Royal Drawing School at Dumfries House in Ayreshire. Dumfries House houses a historically significant collection of Chippendale furniture that in 2007 the King (then Prince of Wales) saved when he stepped in and bought the house to prevent it from being broken up and sold at auction.
During my residency I decided to give the Chippendale sofa in the blue drawing room a makeover. I used the textured pattern of a tesco kitchen sponge printing it directly onto an etching plate which was then engraved. Spontex Upholstery explores ideas of high and low art and the possibility of print on print.
